Podcast S2E02 – Georegulation: Is Europe leading the way against China and the US?

"What is the current role of the European Union in the global economic and political competition with China?"

We present the second episode of the second season of Podcast Colloquia.

We can see that while China and the United States compete to be economic and technological leaders, the EU establishes itself as the regulator of these developments. Its economic weight forces other countries to adapt to European regulations.

Are we facing the use of regulation as a geostrategic tool?

To answer this question, we met today with Jorge Padilla, Senior Managing Director of Compass Lexecon in Europe. Trustee of the Foundation Fide and president of its International Academic Council, and with Ricard Martínez, Professor in the Department of Constitutional Law, Political Science and Administration of the UV, and Academic Advisor of Fide.

We delve into the concept of georegulation, placing special emphasis on the differences that exist between China, the United States and the European Union. Throughout the conversation the topics have focused, among others, on the following:

  • What challenges does China's leadership pose for Western countries and how can they meet them?
  • What is the current role of the European Union in the global economic and political competition with China?
  • How can European companies compete with Chinese companies in the global market?
  • What implications does Chinese georegulation have on trade and political relations between China and other countries?
  • What are the risks and opportunities for foreign companies seeking to do business in China?
  • Does the EU have to regulate to adapt to competition?
