Join us at the highly anticipated 2023 Oxford Congress, hosted by the Fide Foundation in collaboration with prominent players in the financial industry. This prestigious event will bring together experts, innovators, and thought leaders from around the world to delve into the intricate realm of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) challenges.

As the global consciousness shifts towards sustainable practices and responsible investment, it is imperative for the financial sector to address the key obstacles hindering progress. Guided by the comprehensive research and insights of the GET-2 ESG Think-Tank, the congress will showcase multidisciplinary working groups, each presenting their proposed solutions to the seven critical ESG challenges identified.

Through engaging discussions, collaborative workshops, and thought-provoking presentations, the 2023 Oxford Congress will provide a platform for knowledge exchange, innovative ideas, and tangible solutions. By embracing the complexities of ESG challenges head-on, we strive to shape a more sustainable and responsible future for the financial industry.

  1. Challenge 1: Balkanisation across global ESG taxonomy by regions and institutions. Develop strategies to harmonize ESG standards across geographical boundaries and financial institutions, fostering a unified and consistent approach.
  2. Challenge 2: ESG key metrics and Ratings. Explore innovative methodologies for measuring and assessing ESG performance, providing financial stakeholders with reliable and transparent metrics.
  3. Challenge 3: To quantify the cost of transition from fossil fuels to a clean energy economy. Does it make sense scenarios to define ESG Targets? Analyze the economic implications of transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources, determining the feasibility and potential benefits of setting ESG targets.
  4. Challenge 4: ESG elephants in the room: Indicators for Sovereigns & Social Bonds. Identify essential ESG indicators for sovereign entities and social bonds, ensuring comprehensive evaluations and informed decision-making in these critical areas.
  5. Challenge 5: New trends in ESG regulations. enhancements required. Examine emerging trends in ESG regulations, pinpointing areas that require enhancements to facilitate more effective and impactful policies.
  6. Challenge 6: Challenges for ESG commitment across End-Investors. Address the challenges faced by end-investors in integrating ESG considerations into their investment strategies, fostering increased commitment to sustainable practices.
  7. Challenge 7: Best practices to avoid Greenwashing. Highlight best practices and robust frameworks to combat greenwashing, promoting transparency and credibility in ESG reporting and communication.

President and Founder of the Fide Foundation | Attends in-person

President and founder of Fide. She has been a lawyer from the Madrid Bar Association since 2000, having developed most of her career as a lawyer in the bankruptcy, procedural and corporate fields. She is an accredited mediator by CEDR, Center for Effective Dispute Resolution of London. She is a magistrate, a position she held from 1990 to 1999 when she requested a leave of absence. Throughout her professional life she has held different positions in private training institutions, she has founded research and study centers in the legal area and participated in different publications, training courses, and other activities related to the world of law and economics.

Global Sustainable Investments Director for Santander Group’s Wealth Management & Insurance Division, and is in charge of the sustainable business development strategy. Prior to that, she was Global Head of ESG and Investment Content at Santander Asset Management, leading the ESG team responsable for developing and implementing a proprietary methodology for sustainable investments in mutual funds and mandates. She has over 30 years experience in financial markets, and is an expert in markets’ strategy and Research. She has held several positions as Head of Market Strategy, Head of Products and Market Intelligence and Head of Research within her journey at Santander Group since 1991. She is a recognised speaker and panelist both on the topics of Markets Strategy and Sustainable Investments. She holds a CESGA (Certified ESG Analyst) certificate from EFFAS, beeing the President of the CESGA Alumni club in Spain. She is also a Certified International Investment Analyst, CIIA. She holds a BA in Business Administration and Accounting in CUNEF, Madrid. Ms. Rivero is a partner at WAS (Woman Action Sustainability) and EJE&CON.

He has more than 12 years of experience advising entities in the financial sector on legal and regulatory matters. He accumulates significant expertise in regulatory implementation projects, specializing in the regulation applicable to the provision of investment services (RIS, MiFID II/MiFIR and MiFID I), sustainability (SFDR), insurance distribution (IDD) and marketing of IICs (UCITS and AIFMD). Likewise, has led and coordinated highly complex international projects for different entities in the financial sector before Brexit, carrying out the necessary procedures before supervisory authorities including the European Central Bank (ECB) and the British PRA. He has joined the Chilean Pension Funds Superintendence in February 2018. He is Brazilian, living in Chile since 2002, he has an extense experience in the Latin American Financial Markets. Started his career as Analyst in Rosenberg & Associados in 1989. In Chile, he was a key part of Larrain Vial’s Latin American Assets team since 2006, being awarded 4 times as Portfolio Manager. From 2012 to 2016 he performed as the CEO of EuroAmerica Administradora General de Fondos, a Chilean Asset Management Company. Prior to joining the Superintendence, he was on the Board of some private companies. As Head of Financial Division, he was part of the Chilean Green Agreement and is part of the group developing the Chilean Taxonomy for Green Finance. Studied Economics in Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil and has a Master in Applied Economics in Universidad de Chile.

Before joining Pictet Asset Management in 2013, he spent eleven years with BNP Paribas Investment Partners in Paris where he was successively in charge of ESG research and proxy voting, SRI product development, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).  He was previously Head of Research Services with Sustainable Asset Management (Zurich) until 2002. He started his career in corporate sustainability in 1992 and worked during eight years for Environmental Resources Management (ERM) as Consultant in Brussels and Technical Director in Oxford advising multinational companies and public sector entities on environmental, health and safety issues. With an investment, pensions, risk, and governance background, he was a NED at Brunel (LGPS) for nearly four years and advised the House of Commons EAC for their 2018 Green Finance inquiry. He supported DWP with the climate provisions of the Pensions Bill, now Act. An actuary, he represents the profession (IFoA) on the Oxford Smith School’s Sustainable Finance Advisory Council. Recent work includes co-convening the RWCS (Real World Climate Scenarios) initiative which challenges the technical adequacy of the NGFS (and CBES) climate scenarios. His talk at this year’s IFoA conference: “Loss and Damage – A Call to Action to Actuaries” identifies what may be the final frontier on climate change risk management. He regards the earth as currently uninsurable.

Head of Impact Investing, leading M&G’s strategy on impact investing as well as covering sustainability issues such as climate change and the circular economy. He has been central to the development of ESG integration within M&G’s investment processes and has supported the development of ESG solutions for clients across asset classes. Ben plays an active industry role as a member of various sustainable and impact investment initiatives, interacting with companies, policymakers, NGOs and other investors. He is a Trustee at Firefly International youth organisation, which provides educational and mental health support for young people in conflict-affected areas in the Balkans and Middle East. Previous to joining M&G in 2003, Ben spent four years with the Equities team at Invesco Perpetual. Ben has an honours degree in Classics from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Previously, worked at the Treasury in Spain, where she was responsible for International Monetary Fund affairs and the G20 finance track, for the relation of Spain as a shareholder and donor of multilateral development banks, and, between 2005 and 2014, she specialized in European economic governance and policies and institutions dealing with the euro area crisis. She holds a Masters degree in European Studies from the London School of Economics and a Licenciatura in Economics from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.

She has work on State-owned Bank reform in many countries through advisory and lending operations including, Brazil, Mexico, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Vietnam. She has published several articles on various financial topics including reforming development and cooperative banks. Prior to joining the World Bank, she worked for at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), with a focus on macro-financial issues. She holds a Ph,D in Economics from Boston University and a Masters in Financial Economics by the Center for Monetary and Financial Studies (CEMFI) in Madrid.
