Driving change: exploring opportunities and challenges in accelerating sustainable finance

An initiative by the Fide’s GET-2 ESG Think-Tank

September 18th, 19th and 20th, 2024

Jesus College, Oxford.

Main Topics

Reaching net-zero greenhouse-gas emissions by 2050 is crucial to mitigate climate change’s adverse impacts. While the scientific case for decarbonization is clear, headwinds persist in its implementation. Companies are strategically pursuing a sustainable transformation to future-proof their business amidst uncertainties and rising costs, while financial institutions continue to navigate the complexities of transition finance to facilitate tangible reductions in emissions.

Sustainable finance is in constant evolution, experiencing rapid growth and forging new pathways for exploration. With the potential to reshape our world by driving positive environmental and social change, it leverages the increasingly available data. Institutional investors serve as powerful change agents, progressively directing capital towards impactful investment solutions while wielding their influence to steward corporate transformation.

Achieving a more sustainable socioeconomic system and meeting the decarbonization targets set by the different countries is a massive task, which requires global collaboration, innovative tools, incentives and the appropriate public and regulatory frameworks.

About the Oxford/24 Congress

The Oxford/24 Congress is a pivotal gathering dedicated to addressing the pressing challenges of climate risk and the imperative of double materiality assessment for optimizing portfolio management. Building upon the momentum generated in previous years, this year’s congress aims to catalyze action towards transitioning to a low-carbon economy while ensuring sustainable business transformation and fostering the necessary collaboration to boost the three «S» in sustainable finance: Speed, Scope, and Scale.

As we convene at Jesus College, Oxford, on September 18th, 19th, and 20th, the spotlight will be on the critical imperative of reaching net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. This ambitious target underscores the urgent need to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change on global standards of living, livelihoods, and natural resources. While the scientific consensus on decarbonization is unequivocal, the pathways to achieving it remain fraught with challenges.

Against this backdrop, the Oxford Congress 2024 will serve as a platform for robust discussions, keynote presentations, and insightful panels. We will delve into the intricacies of sustainable business transformation and examine the pivotal role of institutional investors in driving positive change. From identifying sustainable corporate practices to analyzing opportunities for impactful investments, we will explore how aligning financial interests with environmental and social objectives can unlock new avenues for growth and resilience.

Furthermore, the congress will emphasize the imperative of boosting the three «S» in sustainable finance: Speed, Scope, and Scale. Achieving a more sustainable socioeconomic system and meeting ambitious decarbonization targets necessitate global collaboration, innovative tools, and the implementation of appropriate public frameworks and incentives. Through multidisciplinary dialogues and knowledge exchange, we will strive to identify actionable strategies and scalable solutions to accelerate progress towards a sustainable and resilient future.

Join us at the Oxford Congress 2024 as we embark on a collective journey towards a low-carbon economy, sustainable business practices, and a more inclusive financial system. Together, we can leverage our expertise, resources, and networks to shape a future where environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and financial prosperity intersect harmoniously. Register now to be a part of this transformative event and contribute to shaping the future of finance.
