
Spain’s FIDE Fundacion is leading multi-disciplinary thinking on solutions to cross-border problems. This is vital in an increasingly international environment affecting businesses and individuals alike. As the world begins to recover from the Covid 19 pandemic, for example, global thinking will need to adjust in respect of issues ranging from vaccine nationalism to the reopening of borders to international aviation.
The distinguished members of its International Academic Council met on 16 December to discuss its future plans. There will be much more information on its membership and future plans in January 2021.
An example of FIDE’s past pioneering work was its Congress in 2019 at Jesus College, Oxford. At the Congress, world renowned experts from many disciplines (law, economics and technology) met to discuss the digital revolution and its future regulation in a cross- border context. At a time when the Attorney General for New York has recently announced proceedings against Facebook , in 2019 FIDE had already published papers on the kinds of practices which will be under scrutiny in the USA.
